One of the most impressive sounds in all of jazz history is that of the roaring sound of swinging big band music in full flight.
The Red Jazz Band is a Classic Big Band dedicated to playing the original - and very danceable - sounds of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Harry James, and other great big bands from the Swing Era of the 1930's and 1940's.
The instrumental lineup of a Big Band is typically composed of 17 musicians, divided into four sections (not counting any vocalists):
- five saxophones
- four trombones
- four trumpets
- rhythm section of guitar, piano, double bass (or electric bass), and drums
Red Jazz Band rehearsals are held on most Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center, 830 Grimes Bridge Road, Roswell, GA 30075.
Membership in the Red Jazz band is by invitation only.
